Who We Are

EMILY’s List is the nation’s largest grassroots political network and financial resource for women candidates. We are dedicated to building a progressive America by electing pro-choice Democratic women to federal, state, and local office. We are a network of more than 100,000 Americans -- from all across the country -- committed to recruiting and funding viable women candidates; helping them build and run effective campaign organizations; training the next generation of activists; and mobilizing women voters to help elect progressive candidates across the nation.

EMILY's List has helped to change the face of power in America. Until EMILY's List was founded in 1985, no Democratic woman had ever been elected to the U.S. Senate in her own right, no woman had ever been elected governor of a large state, and the number of Democratic women in the U.S. House had declined to 12 -- less than three percent of the chamber's 435 members. Since then, our grassroots network has helped elect 69 Democratic pro-choice members of Congress, 13 senators, and eight governors. EMILY's List has also become the largest financial resource for minority women seeking federal office. We know how to win.

EMILY's List is needed more than ever before. The Bush Republicans have launched a sustained assault on the right to choose and advances for women. They have run our economy for the benefit of the few, at the expense of us all. And on the world stage, they have created more enemies than friends for the United States, threatening our security.

EMILY's List is ready to help elect strong pro-choice Democratic women leaders from the state House all the way to the White House by recruiting and training new women candidates, protecting our newly elected women leaders from Republican challengers, training campaign staff, and raising the resources we need to win.
